DIGITAL AIR
2004 OLYMPICS 'Opening Titles'
directed by Daryl Goodrich

36 streaming HD cameras recorded directly to disk (three terabytes).
Shooting digitally with every camera streaming continuously allowed for the timing of the virtual camera movement to be decided in post.
Each of the cameras recorded continuously at 15fps and in sync with each other, but with a sync-offset (phase delay) of 8.3 miliseconds from camera-to-camera, so that when cutting across the array the resulting frame rate was 120 frames per second.
The 1/2 meter spacing of the cameras resulted in 12.5 meters per second virtual camera movement.
